In God We Trust

Henri Cartier-Bresson shot these images for the 1960 annual report of Bankers Trust Company. Each photo tells such a story.
This is a drop in the well of his incredible work. The French photographer was a master of candid photography.
His work is on display at MOMA until late June, but you can view more online here.

It is through living that we discover ourselves, at the same time as we discover the world around us. - Henri Cartier-Bresson, 1952

Hit Me With Your Best Shot

My friend and amazing photographer Tony Buttitta took these shots at my house the other day. We did it after working all morning together for Good Day LA. I did my own makeup and hair and threw on a few dresses, so it was a casual shoot, yet these photos are incredible! He's creative, talented and patient - he has to work with me after all... :)

If I had an album, this would look great as the cover. If only I could sing...

I feel like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. Someone said I'm channeling Garbo. I should've said that.
This was taken upstairs, which is obviously under construction but manages to look pretty cool here.
Simba is just like mommy. She never met a camera or photographer she didn't like. (Especially when he knows how to capture our good side.)

Walker's Wonderful World

I'm a more is better kind of gal.
Too much of a good thing can be wonderful - thank you Mae West.
British fashion photographer Tim Walker is definitely my kind of artist.

My gals and I are thinking of having a slumber party. Wouldn't it be marvelous in a cavernous library with tents and lights?

I don't have a green thumb so there aren't many plants in my home. However, I do love buying flowers and my backyard is a wild mess of green.

The princess and the pea is one of my favorite childhood stories. Was there a prince involved? I just wanted to be a fussy princess who could still feel the pea through the wonderful stacks of fluffy mattresses and featherbeds. Forget pillow fights. I'm happiest kicking under the covers.

Romeo, you must try a bit harder. Rapunzel doesn't want to risk her beautiful locks just to let you up.
Best party lights ever.

Twilight

These photographs by Robert Adams were taken at twilight and evoke nearly the same emotions as Gregory Crewdson or Philip Lorca diCorcia. Visually stunning but tense, melancholy and chaotic.
My favorite one is the bright carnival rides with skies about to break overhead. What a pairing.
Adams also takes daytime photographs and keeps that same emotion.
I'm realizing The Twilight Zone connection here. Another obsession of mine.

The Cobra Snake

Don't you wish you were on a boat right now with water pistols? Genius. These were taken by The Cobra Snake.
Let's bring this full circle. This post is inspired by the dentist. What? I know.
I hate going to the dentist. I really really really do.
So, I'm sitting in the chair nervously, getting my teeth cleaned & spied a Cobra Snake sticker on the wall of my hygenist's room.
I learn the woman polishing my grill (in the most sweet gentle way) is his mom. Only in LA, no?
She rocks. So do his photos. They always puts me in the mood to host/attend a party! One of my favorite pastimes.

Autumn de Wilde

My husband - as usual - told me about photographer Autumn de Wilde. She lives in Silver Lake and photographs indie artists including one of my absolute faves - Jenny Lewis.

If I had the means, I'd buy the one below with Jenny & the little girl. So girly, I can already imagine it in my upstairs hallway leading to the bedrooms.

I love this ice cream one with the Watson Twins.

How cute are her little shorts? I'm rocking out to one of their songs - Breakin Up - it's so dancey I didn't realize it's a anthem about being dumped. It's so good, it kind of makes being dumped sound like fun! Click here to watch a live performance on MTVu.

Ooh. Ah! Feels good to be free! Ooh. Ah! Feels good to be free!

I wish this song was around when I got dumped & only had Alanis Morrisette to turn to. Perhaps I wouldn't have been so bitter?
