Explosive Perfume

I have a bit of insomnia... so I'm typing away, feeling frustrated. Maybe it's the time change? Ok, so let's talk about my secret weapon.... I get complimented on it all the time and I just found out it's been banned from some airports because it LOOKS like a weapon!

It's Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf. It's been banned from duty free shops in Oslo so that "extremists will not be tempted to use it as a prop." It's shaped like a hand grenade.

My husband bought it for me because it smells fruity, sweet and actually lasts, unlike my other numerous purchases of scents by Escada & Nanette Lepore. I didn't realize it was shaped like a grenade until someone asked me what I was wearing and I said Flower.. bomb. Then it all came together. Even the little black pin with VF on it. Why did they choose that shape? I don't want to hold a gun and certainly not a hand grenade. My life isn't that boring. As far as perfume bottles go, diamond and oblong shapes are indeed overused, but a bomb?

Earring Ecstasy

Mary J. Blige complimented my earrings. Seriously! She did it after I complimented her massive cushion cut Cartier drop earrings, so I'm sure she felt guilty that she was wearing diamonds worth more than my house, but still. Mary J paid me a compliment. Love her! Seriously, I've loved her since "Sweet Thing," way back in H.S. but now, I REALLY love her.

So, here are objects of her affection. The (fake) gold and (faux) leather earrings she admired. Of course when she asked if they were leather and gold I just nodded. Now they're on sale.... I didn't get the discount, but I'll hook you up... 5.99!

I love the 80's

When I was in junior high, had pale yellow flowered wallpaper, a canopy bed and cream bookcase. For a while it was my little slice of sunshine. Then I fell in love with bold, bright colors. Specifically, red, black and white. I was so 80's. I went all out... red carpet, a white bed with black and white accessories thrown all over the room. I don't think I have ever recovered, because I'm still that way. I don't want a beige couch. I want a hot pink one with stripes! I want busy walls, loud art!

When I went on a trip to Paris, I happened across Piet Mondrian's paintings at Centre Pompidou. Seeing his bold pieces made me feel cultured, like I had taste. I have my tacky leanings, but hey, at least I know a Mondrian when I see one now.

Juicy Jeffers

Jay Jeffers has some of the coolest design... He's like Tinkerbell. It's like he sprinkles pixie dust on everything he touches.

Isn't this the coolest baby's room?

Interiors from Flickr

I love these modern interiors.

Marie Antoinette

I have a cold, these photos from Marie Antoinette cheered me up.

Vacation!

I am going to Manhattan in less than a week. Words can't say how thrilled I am to take a vacation. Let's just say it's been about a year since I've taken a few days where there wasn't a wedding, a funeral or nursing a cold.

This little snowglobe seems to sum up what I'm anticipating. Enjoying a small sample of the city.. the chill... and a bit of that New Yawk charm.

working day & night

all week long we've had electricians making swiss cheese of our walls - i'm not complaining. thank you lovely men for updating our home from the seventies.

my husband is normally a do-it-yourselfer. but it's one thing if you make a mistake and the tile doesn't line up. it's another if the wrong wires are crossed, sparks fly in the middle of night & the roof catches fire. we shared the the same worries, so he sucked it up and hired professionals.

the only catch... the electricians arrive early every morning, plus i work late at night, so that added up to bronchitis... but now, losing sleep is starting to pay off!

the drywallers came today. no one told me how wonderful they are. they were like cake decorators... covering up gaping holes, spreading spackle like buttercream across the seams. it looked so beautiful when i left for work & they hadn't even finished.

i feel bad for our neighbors. my husband was prepping for the drywallers last night. tearing down our kitchen cabinets with a hammer and elbow grease, when i heard a sleepy shout from next door. i looked at the clock... 12:30am. we're so used to the sounds we didn't even notice the time! i'm thinking of sending over a little note of apology attached to a plant...
we still have a long way to go :)

Loving Lillies

I simply adore two Lillies right now... Lily Allen & Lilly Piri. Both are artists, but one's a British singer and the other, an Australian illustrator.

Lily Allen's music is free at www.lillyallenmusic.com

You can see more of Lillian Piri's work at www.littlegalaxie.com

Missoni Knock Off

Ok, so now I'm on a Missoni kick, but this is the Forever 21 version. I simply can't spend the money on the real thing. I like it though, yes... no???

Mirrors

Okay, so normally I wouldn't pick out mirrors like the one above.. a bit traditional, but it's going in my powder room, & I have pink and white wallpaper. Can you believe I'm married? My husband either really trusts me, or will get even with me later by hanging some of his outrageous concert posters in public. Right now they're relegated to a closet.

I LOVE this mirror from pieces in Atlanta. It's the one store that I miss so much. But at least I have West Hollywood now. I discover something new all the time.

Green Pillows

I'm on the hunt for apple green color in pillows. It's not that easy. I was driving all over LA yesterday, and while I found some terrific stores, there weren't many pillows out there. I found two in person, but the others are all online. I'm dying to see the Missoni pillows in person.

Audrey Kawasaki

I simply love Audrey Kawasaki's art. A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to meet her at a gallery opening and she was very sweet.

It was an event at the Corey Helford Art Gallery, called Charity By Numbers. Each artist took an original paint by numbers artwork and made it their own.

My first post

I am thrilled. My laptop and modem are hooked up! A girl needs to have her internet access at all times. Hooray for my computer & wireless internet. It's the best Valentine's day gift!

I'm setting up my blog with no particular direction in mind. I just feel I need a central spot to post my favorite links or photos that make me smile. My list of bookmarked websites is always out of control because I fall in love with so many photos and links. Whether this is just for me or if someone happens to drop by, ttfn.
