Candyland in Tinseltown

I am beyond excited for Will Cotton's solo exhibition at The Michael Kohn Gallery.  The opening is tomorrow, but the show will continue through Valentine's Day.
I've adored him for years, but just about died when his paintings were brought to life in Katy Perry's California Gurls video.  He's also very hands on.  He makes all of the delicious fashions for his models, including the candy crown and foil cupcake wrapper dress you see on Katy.

Doesn't that wedding cake hat look good enough to eat?  A walk through the gallery would be the perfect way to spend Valentine's Day, don't you think?

Visions of Sugar Plums

I woke up this morning with candy on my mind. Will Cotton is one of my favorite artists and his works are the stuff of dreams.

Will Cotton "Candy Curls"
Will Cotton "Ribbon Candy"

Kenny Scharf "Chocolate Donut in Space"
Will Cotton "Chocolate Forest"
The most special hot chocolate I've ever tasted was at Angelina in Paris. It opened in 1903 and their hot chocolate tastes like a liquid candy bar. It's so rich the whipped cream tempers the sweetness. I could only handle a few sips, but I recall thinking it was exactly what I imagined the chocolate river would taste like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Before things get to saccharine, let's finish with Morgue Chocolates by Stephen J Shanabrook, shall we?

Will Cotton Candy

Just in time for Valentine's Day. Some sweet & special art by Will Cotton - The Da Vinci of delicious delights - ok, so that's according to Robert. Yes, he was laughing as he said it.

This first one is titled, "Kiss Me." (Oil on canvas.) All of his creations are pretty cool, but my heart lies with his candy landscapes.

Like this "Peppermint Hideaway."

This one is simply, "Flooded."

How cute is his "Churro Cabin" nestled between glazed donuts?

Below is the photo that started my obsession. It was in someone's home in some shelter magazine. It's called "Chocolate Wave." It's from 2002, so it's pre-Chocolate Rain, people!

By the way, Will Cotton really does feature cotton candy. View his beautiful works at www.willcotton.com
