Fiddle Tim

Frances Bean Cobain made her art debut at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in a group show this past Friday.  There wasn't any buzz about it because the works were shown under the pseudonym Fiddle Tim.

Of course they're all sold out.

Big Love

Curtis Kulig's street art spotted on Sunset Blvd. a block east of Highland Ave.

You've probably seen his art in the opening credits of SNL.  I have this poster, which I regret is sold out.

His latest one is still available, but not as cool as the others IMHO.  I recommend scouring ebay.

Kernel of Perfection

Soak up these mind-blowing images by Geof Kerns.

The Alice In Wonderland inspired images were created for Flor.
Drink in his quotes. I think I'm falling in love...

“I come from a poor background. I didn’t know anybody. I didn’t have connections. I had a child who had brain cancer. And I thought that I could make money more quickly in still photography.”

“I don’t have much time to pour the wine and muse over relics of the past. I think of myself as just a guy who shows up for work every day.”

“Photography is ipso facto surreal. It distorts reality. It makes you believe what you’re seeing.”

Joshua Petker: Between Butterflies

@JoshuaPetker is a romantic. He loves painting beautiful women. He's sometimes shy yet fiercely opinionated and a traditionalist who says thank you more often than necessary because he'd rather err on the side of politeness. This incredible artist is presenting his second solo exhibition Saturday, April 17 and I can't wait.
This is a first look at some of his paintings. Most are already sold. Let's begin with my favorite.

Partying In Red

Up In the Clouds

That's Incredible!

Hi folks. I'm back after a brief break.
Thanks for bearing with me.
Let's get things going with the photography of Li Wei.
The Chinese performance artist says he doesn't use photoshop, just mirrors & hocus pocus.

Will Cotton Candy

Just in time for Valentine's Day. Some sweet & special art by Will Cotton - The Da Vinci of delicious delights - ok, so that's according to Robert. Yes, he was laughing as he said it.

This first one is titled, "Kiss Me." (Oil on canvas.) All of his creations are pretty cool, but my heart lies with his candy landscapes.

Like this "Peppermint Hideaway."

This one is simply, "Flooded."

How cute is his "Churro Cabin" nestled between glazed donuts?

Below is the photo that started my obsession. It was in someone's home in some shelter magazine. It's called "Chocolate Wave." It's from 2002, so it's pre-Chocolate Rain, people!

By the way, Will Cotton really does feature cotton candy. View his beautiful works at www.willcotton.com

Nail Polish Painting

One of my colleagues buys art from every place he has lived. I think it's wonderful, but several of the cities where I have lived have never inspired me enough to buy a piece.

That was, until I moved to Atlanta and made my first art purchase.

The artist was Scott Ingram, and I fell in love with his nail polish paintings after seeing them in an article. He simply buys a bunch of nail polish and drips the contents down the canvas.

I fully understand the argument that modern art can be a big hoax. After all, the guy buys dozens of nail polish bottles and after spilling the contents, calls it art AND charges an arm & a leg for it.

But you know what? I loved the work and realized I truly treasured my piece when it was the only thing that I was worried about arriving safely when I packed up all of my things in Atlanta, put them into a pod and had them shipped out here to LA.

There's even a treasured little drip that hangs from the bottom of one of the nail streaks and I was worried the little drip could break and fall off.

It didn't, and I'm still waiting to display my beautiful work.

I think I may hang it over my bed. I can see it surrounded by a soothing grey palate, the painting shining on its own.
It's a piece that I am proud of, because I picked it out, while my husband (who has a great eye) has discovered most of the artists we love and seek out.
I have the pride of ownership. By the way, the first photo is the one I bought. I love the reds and pinks together.

Beautiful People with Beautiful Feelings

I love Donny Miller. He's the best. He sometimes looks like a latino Dali with his twisted little mustache, but here he looks pretty cool. This is from his myspace.

To me, he's like the Jonathan Adler of art. Inspirational & cheeky, he doesn't seem to take himself or the world too seriously... at least in my humble opinion.

He creates social commentary without shoving it down your throat... we have enough curmudgeons in the world, don't we? doesn't a spoonful of sugar help the medicine go down? it sure does here in LA

I have his book Beautiful People with Beautiful Feelings. it's the perfect coffee table book that makes me laugh & think a bit. . i also bought a little horse painting he made with an a-bomb blowing up in the background. Isn't that ridiculous? don't i look like a hypocrite now after acting so high & mighty about my perfume? yes i do.
