Chanel at Paris Fashion Week

I love Karl Lagerfeld's new looks for Chanel's Fall/Winter 2008-2009 colletion!
The black & tan & b&w looks... those tights! I need the two-toned tights.
What decade are those dresses inspired by? 30's? 40's? Help me out fashion bloggers... :)
Love the bottom look too.. the straps & goth feel...

Vanity 6

I'm sick of standing over my sink to put on makeup. These vanities would make it much more enjoyable.

I couldn't resist the title. Robert has a serious crush on Vanity to this day.

High Fives for Me

I've had an absolutely fantastic day. High fives all around!

If you haven't seen the first version of this video... watch it here!

It's Snow Joke

My lovely snow bunny Christy enjoyed Mammoth this past weekend.

It was so warm & beautiful in LA today, yet isn't this photo refreshing?

I'm heading to Big Bear in about a week.. with two of my favorite couples! Can't wait.

Laurel Canyon Looks

Just spied these lovely looks on Jezebel... who mentioned some Laurel Canyon inspiration.
My hood! I just have to buy some of them... and they're at Target. Yes.
They're Jovovich-Hawk for Target GO International.
I love the chevron top and the floaty dresses. So feminine & comfortable!

Happiness

More moody staged photographs. These works are by Philip-Lorca diCorcia. He's a lot like Gregory Crewdson.

Shoe Fetish

I just found the perfect pair. Marni of course. I just knew they'd be Marni.

I believe I'll wear em tomorrow & every other opportunity I can.

Oscar Magnified

I learned my Oscar photos aren't clickable. How annoying!
Where's Waldo?
I'm interviewing Tara Reid & she looked great. Seriously.

Banksy in LA

A few months ago, I was whining that Banksy hasn't spraypainted in LA.
Now I can shut up.
These little sihouettes of girls are at a gas station at the corner of Beverly & La Brea.
The owner of the Valero gas station is named Aton. He's very excited & tells me he's going to put plexiglass over the works & said - with a laugh - he may sell his station on Craigslist to the highest bidder. (Originals sell for hundreds of thousands... some for millions.)
There are others in the area.. but I'm just glad I got to see these up close & personal!

Sure Fire Shoes

My photographer Ollin found this photo from September of me on Emmy night.
I'm wearing the same shoes I switched into last night! When I first bought them I thought they were a one-time deal because they have green stones and crystals on them.... Who knew they'd be so versatile.

(But killers... Jimmy Choos are built for looks. See, I'm taking them off before he can snap the picture.)

I have a great great GREAT post coming up & I'm so excited. No, I'm not in it. :)

Oh, What a Night

There's Mr. Big looking tall, dark & handsome. There's the girls who matched the decor! Sir Elton was wearing Yohji Yamamoto, Chanel tie, Chopard watch & other fabulosity.

At every turn a kilt! I asked my subject why & in his lovely brogue he told me there were lots of lots of Scots in the house. They passed out red bull to the media on the red carpet. Inside the party - gold & fuschia decor. Last year was silver and white. Love the different direction!

We befriended the bouncers. Mario is to my left. He's a big sweetheart. Check him out to the right though. No one's getting past him.

There's our spot on the carpet. I'm wearing Cole Haan with Nike Air technology for hours of standing & interviewing. It helped. I thought the shoes were a bit daytime so I brought a pair for later.

Do you love the candles suspended from the ceiling inside the tent? We got to hold Oscar!

Evian to the red carpet, stat! The lights were hot & Ollin was working hard for the money.

Serene with her crush from Gossip Girl. Me & my friend & coworker Sean. I posed with Chace Crawford too, but I'm hugging him. Don't want to make Robert too jealous... :)

Me & Serene on the red carpet. Do you like the change? In the middle is our view. Eddie, gear & lights.

Oh, what a night,
Hypnotizing, mesmerizing me.
She was everything I dreamed she'd be.
Sweet surrender, what a night!

Tonight, Tonight

Dancing to Daft Punk with Simba before the party. Getting ready IS half the fun.

It's a Dead Man's Party

I've been sad ever since I heard Polaroid is going away.
Have you ever noticed the banner on my site? I love waiting for the photos to develop - shake it like a Polaroid picture - and seeing their grainy, overexposed results.
I've been itching to throw a party.. maybe I should have a Polaroid party? I fear the film may be outrageously expensive?
Robert is like, whatever. He says a gal at work is collecting Polaroid for future use & she was lamenting the sale of land near the Hollywood sign.
Robert told her she should take a photo of the Hollywood sign on Polaroid.
Now that's just mean.

Pink Martinis with Oscar

One of my favorite bands is playing the Governor's Ball. How I wish I could be in two places at once.
Pink Martini's music feels straight from the 40's, elegant and glamorous, just like Rita Hayworth. Here she is in Gilda with their remake of Amado Mio. The song became insanely popular when she danced to it - didn't sing it though.

My favorite song of theirs is Sympathique. Listen to their music HERE.

Oscar Party Dress

One of these Alice & Olivia dresses would be purrfect on Oscar night. That's if I had time to go get one. Maybe I still do? I'm gonna check.

Anyhoo, they're fun & a bit wild & since I'm just going to a party, I could totally rock one of these at the Pacific Design Center. Of course I have tons of black dresses that will work as back up.

Last year I was wearing black D&G with black stilettos & tights... and Quincy Jones said he loved my shoes. I said I love YOU Quincey! and gave him a big hug. Ah, Oscar night.

Oscar's All Wet

It's so wet here in LA, even Oscar is wearing a raincoat.

I'm browsing songs to use Oscar night. I covered Elton John's party last year & dare I say it was my favorite night of the year? I think that's where I'm going again. Yippee!

Part of the fun is finding the perfect soundtrack to go with my piece. Last year I used Timbaland's Give it to Me. It was the perfect combo. Upbeat, hip, mellow & elegant. Not too "in your face".

This year... I'm a bit perplexed because I used the best songs for Grammys events. Rihanna's Don't Stop the Music, which makes me want to dance, Fergie's Clumsy, Kanye West's Flashing Lights. So sexy. (Did you know Spike Jonze did the video?)

Now, I'm thinking of these...

Britney's Piece of Me.. too soon? It's got a good tempo & fun.
D.A.N.C.E. by Justice... the Diplo Remix is nice.
Lupe Fiasco's Superstar... but it's kind of slow. I want to people to feel like they're at the party!
The #1 song right now is Flo Rida featuring T-Pain... Get Low. It might be a bit strong for the elegant Oscars.. hmm...

Feel free to add your ideas. Beware... it's tricky. Most of my favorite songs don't work for stories. I went to pick up my media credentials today & wore the wrong outfit. My toes were soaked.

Chanel on Ice

A few days ago, I discovered this photograph by David LaChapelle titled "Chanel on Ice."

Today, while browsing sfgirlbybay.com, I saw The Hold Steady concert poster by Dan Stiles. Cool Coincidence.

I'm not really into concert posters. Since meeting me, Robert's been forced to sell most of his beloved posters to buy "real" art. Many posters = one fab piece of art, so I guess I love them in my own way. Means to an end.

Sorry poster fans. I do have a beloved signed George Clooney poster somewhere addressed to me, but it isn't hung up. What does that tell you?

The LaChapelle & other outrageously glamorous works are available at Guy Hepner LA.

Prep Splurges

I celebrated my first day back on the mend with - what else - shopping! It felt so good to people-watch, have a pomegranite martini at The Whisper Lounge.

I ventured into J Crew & bought some new duds for Robert. (Except for the shirt of the left. It's Gap.) His job is relatively casual so I bought him some shirts that aren't like the shirts he'd wear out. Oh and ties. I haven't bought him any in years. Gasp!

The top photo is my purchases for him. I think both ties work with the middle shirt? The second photo is more true to view. I'll see if he likes them.

Am I the only one who can't handle Abercrombie & Fitch? I don't mind walking by and checking out the models. Always a must. I mind the loud music, too low lighting & heavy cologne. It's like a nightclub trying to hide the dingy decor. Oh, I just got it. It's for teens who aren't old enough to get into clubs yet... living vicariously through A&F. Right?

I'll go take my Geritol now and wash it down with Ensure.

Perfectly Prep

I'm craving some serious prep style. First of all, Robert got a new ride. I don't think I can even force myself to type what he was driving before. Oh, and how his friends delighted in asking me whether he picked me up in it. (No!)

So first, Robert scores an 80's sports car. Then, I open my Nordstrom catalog this month and Sperry Top Siders are all over the place.

Have I told the Sperry story before? When Robert was a child, he wanted Sperry Top Siders like everyone else. Sadly, his mom would only pay for the knockoffs called Bar Harbors. Better something than nothing, right?

On the first day of school, Robert met up with his friend Tim and looked down. "Bar Harbors?" Tim nodded. Best friends to this day.

Here's the most perfectly preppy (in every way) family I know. This was their Christmas photo. Do you love it?

I have confidence I can sport argyle too!

On Broadway...

My dear Patrick recently celebrated his 30th birthday at Broadway Bar in Downtown LA.
I'll take you through the photos. I was so proud of my bright blue tights. Everyone loves to strike a pose. His cake was inspired by a section of Florence Broadhurst wallpaper!
Notice Dana sharing his tie with Robert. I forgot to put a tie on him. I can be a bad wife. :(
D's jacket is pretty spiff too. I'm so going shopping for my man.
